On March 19, 2019, as part of her official visit to Georgia, EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström met with representatives of the Georgian business community at an event organized by the EU-Georgia Business Council (EUGBC). Among the honored guests were members of Georgia’s women winemaking community, invited in recognition of their growing role in the country’s wine industry.

The meeting aimed to foster closer ties between Georgian businesses and the European Union, with a particular focus on supporting women entrepreneurs. During the event, EUGBC presented its new initiative, “Georgian Women Winemakers,” designed to spotlight and empower female leaders in the Georgian wine sector.

Following the meeting, a wine tasting was hosted at the Biltmore Hotel, featuring wines crafted by the women of the Women in Wine Industry association. Guests had the opportunity to explore a rich variety of Georgian wines, each expressing the craftsmanship and passion of its creator.

This event marked an important step toward greater international recognition for Georgian women winemakers, highlighting their contribution to the industry and their role in shaping its future.
